Cammeo

The cameo has long played a central role in the history of Italian jewellery. Stone and shell carving have ancient roots: the first samples of cameos date back to the Hellenistic period.

During the Renaissance, prominent Italian artists devoted themselves to this unique form of art, which consists in manually removing, using specific chisels, portions of a multi-layered stone or shell to create a bas-relief drawing.
