Description
Celebrating the flora and fauna of the rainforest, these limited-edition egg objets pay homage to Fabergé’s rich heritage. Limited to just 10 numbered editions per design, these creations fuse the iconic egg with animal surprises inspired by the inhabitants of tropical climates.
Forming part of the Fabergé Rainforest capsule collection of egg objets, this limited-edition creation celebrates the Amazon rainforest. Hand-crafted in Pforzheim, Germany, every egg objet is entirely unique. Limited to ten numbered editions, each egg objet is crafted from 18k yellow gold and hand-painted with purple enamel. A classic guilloché pattern is achieved on the exterior of the egg by engine turning, and is further enhanced with an intricately hand-engraved cocoa plant applied over the top to add depth and create a beautiful play of light. The egg is mounted on a checkerboard carved chrysoprase base, with an 18k yellow gold stand which has been set with blue sapphires. Floral style motifs, inspired by the cocoa plant flower, are mounted around the circumference of the egg, set with blue sapphires and white diamonds. The egg objet opens to reveal a poison dart frog surprise, made from 18k yellow gold and decorated with lacquer.
Peter Carl Fabergé was renowned for crafting quirky little animals from hardstone as charms and ornaments. Art historians have described these creations – the Fabergé menagerie – as possessing ‘psychologically interpretive aspects’, or human-like qualities. Fabergé often combined these hardstones with precious metals and coloured gems, seamlessly integrating each with the other to produce miniature works of art.
